Osama’s Treacherous Delusions Seem to be Infectious

In November of 2002, Osama Bin Laden wrote what he called his “Letter to America” to describe why it was that he and his followers were fighting against the US and Israel.1 In a delusion-filled defense for the destruction and death he instigated in the 9/11 attacks, and running about 3800 words, Bin Laden said that the Quran gave them authorization for their actions and that the US and Israel had, among many other things:

  • Attacked them, especially in Palestine in the formation of the nation of Israel.
  • Attacked them in Somalia, supported the Russian atrocities against Chechnya, supported the Indian oppression in Kashmir, and supported Jewish atrocities in Lebanon.
  • Supported governments in the middle east that prevented them from establishing the Islamic Shariah law.
  • Stolen their wealth and oil.
  • Occupied their countries.

He went on to justify the murder of US civilians because these civilians pay taxes to support the government and the armed forces. The letter prescribes the changes that he and his people require of the US; foremost of which are that we are to all become Muslims and obey Shariah law.

Bin Laden concluded with this:

  • The Islamic Nation that was able to dismiss and destroy the previous evil Empires like yourself; the Nation that rejects your attacks, wishes to remove your evils, and is prepared to fight you. You are well aware that the Islamic Nation, from the very core of its soul, despises your haughtiness and arrogance. If the Americans refuse to listen to our advice and the goodness, guidance and righteousness that we call them to (The ironic bold face emphasis is ours, IVMV), then be aware that you will lose…This is our message to the Americans, as an answer to theirs. Do they now know why we fight them and over which form of ignorance, by the permission of Allah, we shall be victorious?

The recent re-release of this letter went viral and caused an (in article author Carbonaro’s words) “…an ‘existential crisis’ after reading bin Laden’s criticism of the U.S.” The re-reading of the letter has given additional impetus to the ignorant (of the real history of Palestine and the Middle East, IVMV) and anti-Semitic movement supporting Hamas’ actions, while criticizing and attacking Israel and the US for supporting the Israelis.

To those of us who have been aware of the leftist propaganda and mythologies commonly disseminated in university classrooms, it comes as no surprise that the vanguard of this movement seems to be administration and faculty of academic institutions as well as the young students over whom they have considerable influence. In a recent piece not-so-subtly excusing the anti-Semitic rhetoric and actions on US college campuses, Politico cited a Corrnell University professor who described that he was “exhilarated and energized” when he learned of the vicious Hamas attack and a professor at Yale decrying the Israeli response calling2 Israel a “murderous, genocidal settler state.” According to a CNN report, a Stanford professor has been removed from teaching because in a class the instructor asked students “…how many Jews were killed in the Holocaust?”3 When a student answered that there six million Jews exterminated in the Holocaust, the instructor described Israel as a “colonizer” state and that many more people than this have been killed by “colonizers.”

The reaction to the re-release of bin Laden’s delusional treatise seems to be a vast eruption of ignorance and amazing examples of how critical thinking is disappearing from higher education. Can we really believe that these students and professors justifying acts of extreme cruelty and violence by Hamas would be in favor of forcible conversion to Islam and the enforcement of Shariah law that condemns those who participate in “…immoral acts of fornication, homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling’s, and trading with interest.”4

The absurd conduct of those who give any sort of credence to Bin Laden’s delusions demonstrate the degeneration of higher education in the US to nothing more than political indoctrination, and critical thinking to ignorance. We here at I Vote My Vote will always stand for true education: by that we mean learning of actual history while discovering differing views and perspectives that may be in opposition to the mindless, intentionally subversive propaganda masquerading as fact and truth, while serving the agendas of biased and irrational faculty.
